Separate Blog Experiment For Short Notes Up and Running

Cliff538 Notes is up and running.

Not sure about all of this, but it bothers me that titleless short notes, really meant for Mastodon, are clogging up my home page.

I’m still investigating whether there is a way to separate titleless posts from the home page, but then you would still need a separate page to show all of them. Or, have a toggle to show/hide. Seems complex to me.

The easiest route is what most people suggested to me: just keeping everything on one blog. Keep it simple! I tried posting my short notes only to Mastodon, but then I don’t have a nice, clean running record on my blog. The answer seems to be a separate blog where you write all your short notes, tweets, skeets, and toots. Then you have a clean running list of all of them. Link to it from the home page.

Most people will never look at it; it’s mostly for me. A record of everything I posted to Mastodon. I suppose you could download all that info from Masto, but what then? Where do you put it for easy viewing?

We will try this for a few months and see how I like it. It’s easy to go back to having everything on the home page.

Dentist Inspired Blog Update Day

It’s blog update day!

Went to the dentist today for stage two of implant surgery, so it seemed like a good time, while I nursed my sore gums, to spend the afternoon updating, tweaking, and loving on my blog.

I take big breaks from working on the blog, but when I get the chance for a multi-hour work spree on it, I really enjoy it.

What Got Done:

Updated the Essentials Page.

Updated the Now Page.

Updated Book Resources.

Added a “Started But Did Not Finish” book shelf.

Added another link to the 365 Photo Challenge Blog 365Pixels in the main navigation.

Yet To Do:

Add more photo sets to the photography page.

Make a dedicated coffee page where I can talk about espresso machines, grinders, coffee beans, pour-over technique, scales, etc etc, just a whole lotta coffee love ☕️ page.

Cliff Notes:

I really struggled with removing my sidebar on my main page. I’m just torn about it. Some days I like it, other days I dislike it. I did remove it from all other pages, so it’s only on the main page now. Also, on small screens, you don’t even see it due to a lack of real estate.

Let me leave you with this: if you’ve ever thought about having your own blog and getting off all other social media, I can’t recommend it enough. Own and control your stuff!
